In this episode, Lacey has a powerful conversation with Rachel Devine about turning your fears into curiosities. Rachel is a blogger, professional photographer and mother who unapologetically and honestly shares and unpacks her experiences with her online audiences. From her struggles with secondary infertility, to her current grappling with the grief of losing her mother and her diagnosis of epilepsy, she will tell you anything in case it helps just one other person feel less alone.
Rachel has fallen in love with fine art underwater and in water portraiture, showing the beautiful chaos of what life can look like just under the surface of the water. As a mother, Rachel discovered just how hard it still is for girls to forge a pathway and gain their due respect and recognition through sport. Using her “American style” voice and photography talents, Rachel helps shine a light on these incredible athletes and the scarcity of opportunities for them.

About Rachel Devine

“As a blogger, I am all about being my family’s photojournalist, sharing our daily lives with the wider world. Of course, I don’t share everything, but I am always honest in the portrayal of our days. From my struggles with secondary infertility years ago to my current grappling with the grief of losing my mother and my diagnosis of epilepsy, I will tell you anything in case it helps just one other person feel less alone. I do love recording the beauty in details and finding common themes in those. I think everyone has a story to tell and love following the work of other bloggers and photographers who let me have a glimpse of their lives through the images and words. As an expat, I treasure the connected collective of artists that the internet has made possible.”

“As a professional photographer, I have fallen in love with fine art underwater/in water portraiture. There is something magical about how the water obscures features and distorts details. Showing what life can look like just under the surface of the water is something really special since so many others don’t even think about going there. I like that the water adds an element of unpredictability to the photographs so you never know how they will turn out. Letting chance play a part in my art is important as I am never looking for perfection. Beautiful chaos excites me and when clients trust me to picture their lives in this way… magic happens.”

“As a mother, I have discovered just how hard it still is for girls to forge a pathway and gain their due respect and recognition through sport. I have decided to use my “American style” voice and photography talents to help shine a light on these incredible athletes and the scarcity of opportunities for them. My little passion project has grown from these experiences and I look forward to sharing their stories through photography with a series I am developing called “Picturing Cricket” as well as empowering merchandise that I design and well to support that passion project.”
